Mpande

Mpande is as uncomplicated and pristine as the Wild Coast can get. This remote spot is cloaked in lush indigenous forest and overlooks the Sinangwana river mouth and the Indian Ocean.

Activities and sightseeing in the area

Horse riding

Senso and Alex give guided tours and look after the 11-horse herd. You can take a ride to a shipwreck, through the forest or to a waterfall.

Hiking

This is the terrain for the adventurous. You can opt to go yourself for a short walk or take a guided 2 day walk along the coast, through rich forest and Pondo and Xhosa villages.

Xhosa culture

A local guide will take you to visit his village and help you get a better understanding of how he lives. You can also let loose and dance at the Sangoma, or witchdoctor, parties.

Surfing

There are several surf spots nearby. Pack a lunchbox and head out on a surf mission.

Snorkelling

Snorkel in clean rock pools with tropical fish.

Dolphin and whale watching

Humpbacks and southern rights play in the bay during winter. Dolphins can often be seen surfing the waves.
