Napier

Napier

Napier is a small town situated in the Overberg. It was established in 1838. Like many other forgotten little places in South Africa, Napier is getting back on the travellers’ map. The charm of the narrow streets, the quaint architecture of the century-old cottages and the new modern buildings contributes to the fine setup. During winter the surrounding canola fields are illuminated in hues of green and yellow.

Once known as little “Afrikaans Dorp” Napier has developed itself into a centre of art. The main road has many restaurants, interesting little shops and plenty of art galleries.

Nature lovers will also be drawn to the area of Napier as the variety of fynbos and bird species is overwhelming. These can be experienced on the Grootberg Hiking Trail which is 8km around the summit of Grootberg.
